General Con Info & Registration

When is the con?

Virtual CON.TXT 2020 is on July 25, 2020.

Where is the 2021 con?

The Residence Inn - Pentagon City, in Arlington, VA, just south of Washington, D.C.

How much is the con?

The virtual 2020 con is FREE (but we are accepting donations towards online services and future scholarships through Paypal)!

When and how can I register?

Check out this post! If you have any questions about registering, please contact us at registration@con-txt.com.

How can I get updates about the con?

Updates page which mirrors the official CON.TXT Dreamwidth con-txt page. We also maintain @contxt_announce at Twitter for important announcements (or follow @contxt_con for more frequent chatter and some fun fannish content!), and the CON.TXT at Tumblr. You can follow us in any of these places to stay kept up to date.

What is your cancellation policy?

Attending members who cancel 30 days before the con can choose to have their membership fee refunded through Eventbrite.

What is your safety policy?

We want CON.TXT (including virtual CON.TXT 2020!) to be a safe space for all attendees. If you see activities you think are inconsistent with this goal, the concom is ready to help. Please note that CON.TXT is a private event, and we reserve the right to refuse admission to any participant at any time for any reason, with no refund of registration fees.

Please, before you take any photos or videos at CON.TXT, we must ask you to get explicit permission from anyone in those photos or videos. There is no audio or video recording in panels.

You can read our Code of Conduct, Safety Policy, and Accessibility Policy here

Is there a minimum age for attendance?

Yes. You must be 18 years of age or older at the time of the con in order to attend. By submitting the registration form you are agreeing that you meet this requirement.

Do you have supporting memberships?

If you would like to support the con, you can make a donation through the Eventbrite link on the Home Page.

Will you have day memberships? Or registration at the door? Or will I be able to come to just one part of the con, like the Disco Duck dance party?

You will always be able to attend just our dance party, Disco Duck! Keep an eye on the Updates for details about this party. Single-day memberships, however, are not currently offered. For each con we will decide whether to accept registration at the door, but please do not depend on it -- register as early as you can! Again, keep an eye on the Updates for final registration information.

Fan Fair.

What's the Fan Fair?

Fan Fair is where you can buy cool fannish swag at CON.TXT! It’s a 3-hour event on Saturday afternoon where con attendees can shop for art, handmade geeky goods, and other fannish items from outside vendors or fellow con members.

We know many CON.TXT attendees make incredibly cool things but don’t want to spend the whole weekend sitting behind a vendor table.

Sounds great! What if I want to sell cool fannish swag at CON.TXT?

It’s easy! You can sign up for a table at the Fan Fair, and sell your items to your fellow con-goers yourself. A half table costs $10 for con members (including day members) and $20 for non-members; to for a full table, simply purchase two half tables.

If you don’t want your own table at the Fan Fair--or if you’re not attending the con--you can also sell your items via the Orphan Table, which will be staffed by con volunteers. Twenty percent of sales will support the con, with the rest going to you. (No items priced under $5, please.)

Why not have dealers all weekend, like most cons do?

We wanted to structure things so that vendors could have a chance to sell and still attend panels. With the Fan Fair, more of you will have a chance to share the things you make with your fellow attendees--without missing the rest of the stuff you come to CON.TXT for.

Awesome, I can finally share my hand-embroidered Star Trek quote wall hangings with the world! Uh, that’s something you guys would want for the marketplace, right?

Absolutely! We welcome a wide range of handmade and collectable new and used goods. If you make fanart, jewelry, fiber crafts, wearable items, zines, or other things with geek appeal, we’d love to have you. We’re also interested in vintage zines, action figures, and other kinds of memorabilia. If you’re not sure whether your goods are right for the Fan Fair, check in with us at dealers@con-txt.net before signing up, and we’ll let you know if the things you want to bring haven’t been big sellers in the past.

Hmmm. I do enjoy making decoupaged light switch plates out of old comic books, but I’m not sure I have enough of them to fill a whole table.

No problem! You can reserve a table or a half-table for yourself, or split one with a friend (or friends!). If you’ve only got enough light switch plates for a quarter-table, that’s fine-- just join forces with your friend who crochets amigurumi versions of the Justice League.

I’m not attending CON.TXT, but I did make this really great oil painting of Paul Gross wrestling a bear. Is there a way I can still try to sell it?

Sounds like you’re a great candidate for the Orphan Table! You’ll need to ship your items before the con, or send them with a friend that’s attending. Contact us at dealers@con-txt.net to arrange shipping (including sending back anything that doesn’t sell). Please make sure everything you’d like us to sell for you is labeled with a price ($5 minimum) and your name, so we can keep track of what you sell.

Hey, maybe this means I can finally find a home for the six boxes of Dragonlance paperbacks in my garage! You guys want those, right?

...Probably not, no. Not all pre-owned items are likely to be good sellers, and we don’t want you to have to haul them all the way to the con and back for nothing. If you’re interested in bringing a lot of used items or anything bulky or heavy, please contact us at artsy@con-txt.net before you sign up and we’ll let you know if they’re a good fit for the con.

I want to sell at the Fan Fair, but I can’t attend the whole weekend. Can I just come for a day?

Yes! You can buy a half table for $20 (or purchase two half tables for a full one) and just come for the Fan Fair.

How do I sign up for all of these very exciting options?

Seller sign-up is coming soon! Check back here for the link and instructions, or watch the CON.TXT Dreamwidth and Twitter for announcements. If you have questions, you can contact us any time at dealers@con-txt.net.

What's up with the duck?

Because we like it! Because ducks are fannish! Because sometimes a girl needs a purple duck, and nothing else will do!

This FAQ is under construction! More to come.
